ANGELL TOWN HOUSING PHASES I AND II

Commissioned by the London Borough of Lambeth and Ujima Housing Association. Working with the architects Burrell Foley Fischer, this project involved the demolition of public housing built in the late 1970’s and its replacement with smaller-scale family units. Masterplanning included the provision of home zones to manage traffic and parking.

We were involved in extensive public consultation and community participation through meetings leafleting, ‘at home’ interviews, questionnaires, public open days and exhibitions of proposals as they developed.

Angell Town Estate was recognised by the Deputy Prime Minister’s Award for Sustainable Communities 2003 for designing and creating a ‘sense of place’ together with a safe and healthy environment.

It received a Housing Design Award in 2002, a Brick Development Award (Golden Brick) 2002 and subsequently won other awards.
