BLACKFRIARS PRECINCT
The Blackfriars masterplan sets the vision for a new cultural and creative heart for the City of Gloucester. It will be a true mixed-use destination centred around the reuse and integration of Blackfriars Priory.
A new square is also the focus for specialist retail, cultural and leisure uses, including a new high quality hotel. This focus links the specialist retail/leisure offer and creates a circuit from the quays and Docks through to Westgate, via the redevelopment of the Fleece Inn. Other important buildings such as the Crown Courts provide unique locations for leisure and cultural uses.
A coherent and attractive public realm has been identified as critical to delivering the objectives of the GHURC. A consistent approach to the streetscape including materials and street tree planting, with a distinctive focus on the historic contact, serves to bind the key development projects together.
