CHESIL BEACH VISITORS CENTRE
The existing Chesil Beach Visitor Centre is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coastline, Coe design was appointed to work on the expansion of the Centre and assist in the Round 2 Heritage Lottery Fund application.
The sensitivity of the Fleet and its surroundings is recognised in its seven designations, with this in mind the landscape intent was driven by the principle of the ‘lightest-touch’ to minimise any impact of intervention. The proposals include working in conjunction with local ecologists to enhance and protect existing habitats.
Working with artist John Maine, our proposals explored the use of local Portland stone and its representation as ‘Jurassic’ elements within the landscape.
