MUBARAK AL-HASSAWI MEDICAL INSTITUTE

We were involved in the design of four courtyard gardens to accompany the buildings as part of a new medical centre in Sharjah, the third largest emirate in the Persian Gulf.

Following the form of the traditional Islamic garden, the charhar bagh or ‘fourfold garden’ is used to provide a framework to underpin the design. and provide quiet and reflective spaces to aid recovery and recuperation. Extensive use is made of geometric paving, moving water with fountains and rills. Shade is created using palm trees and hedging. Work is about to start on the second phase of the project.
